Oliver & Co(de)

coding blog, project portfolio, and whimsy

About me:

I’m a full stack software engineer based in Los Angeles with a broad technical background and a strong interest in building thoughtfully architected, reliable systems. I’m happiest when I can move fluidly between backend engineering, database architecture, testing infrastructure, and DevOps workflows.

Python is home base for me, but I also regularly work with TypeScript/React, Java, scalable microservices, and modern frontend tooling like Tailwind CSS. I thrive at adapting to the needs of a specific project, and one of my strongest skills is communication: bridging gaps between people working at different levels of abstraction, whether that’s frontend and backend teams, engineers and designers, project managers and developers, or senior and junior engineers. I believe good engineering teamwork depends on asking clear questions, rephrasing ideas thoughtfully, making sure everyone is actually solving the same problem — and making sure we’re solving the right problem!

I spent three years at an aerospace startup, where I grew from a temporary intern into a full-time software engineer, taking on increasing ownership of product development and backend infrastructure. I helped build new platform features, expanded automated testing coverage to prevent regressions, and championed a version control product for systems engineers that became a core part of the company’s offering.

My path into software engineering was unconventional and largely self-directed. My first ground-up coding project was a performance art piece exploring truth acceptance, and I still love projects with a little whimsy and bohemian edge — especially those that reveal something about the human condition or give us the opportunity to reflect on our relationship with technology. After teaching myself programming fundamentals through online courses, I joined LaunchCode, a year-long intensive program where I developed both my technical skills and confidence as an engineer. The mentorship I received there had a lasting impact on me, and I care deeply about helping newer programmers find their footing and continue growing in the field. Lately, I’ve been coaching a data analyst friend of mine on learning Python, a very mutually rewarding experience!

Lately, I’ve been interested in exploring Node.js, AI-assisted creative projects, and learning new technologies simply for the joy of expanding my toolkit.

Where else can you find me?
